Welcome to Weekly Round-Up No. 34! This week we feature the debut release by Moncrieff. And we review new singles by Baula, thanks., Raindrop and Enerate. Enjoy the music!
Moncrieff – Symptoms
Once in a while there is that singer-songwriter that brings classic blues into a pop song. Newcomer Moncrieff does an incredible job, and his vocals are urgent and intense. His debut “Symptoms” is a powerful song, especially for those who relate to addictive relationships. Moncrieff is a new star on the rise.
Baula – Nova
Baula is a part Swedish, part Icelandic alternative pop band based in Gothenburg, Sweden. They gladly take their time to record and release a new song, every one . Their third single “Nova” was released last week. Just like their previous ones, this song has a true soundtrack quality: it would be appropriate in a movie, and the song evokes loads of images. Their sound is very close to Raveonettes: loads of guitars, with heavenly girl group-like vocals. “Nova” adds a film noir surf guitar which makes it even more exciting!

Catchy poprock songs with a touch of electro: thanks. surely know how to write true pop songs! They fully embrace an infectious groove, a sing-along chorus and catchy guitar hooks to seduce their listeners. And they succeed of course! Their new single “Loose Gun” is another fine example of their pop sound. But please beware of addiction! Their debut album “Colfax” is set for release this summer.
Raindrop – Only Hope
Lo-fi garage rock with delicious doo wop melodies! The Australian band from Miles Devine Raindrop return with their 1960s retro sound. Their new single “Only Hope” is less psychedelic than earlier songs, in favour of a delightful doo wop touch. Think of Flaming Lips singing The Supremes; completely surprising and strangely believable.
Enerate – Half Asleep
It has been a while since we heard from Enerate. After years the Australian band release a new single, called “Half Asleep”. They stay true to their classic indiepop, but also flirt with a tropical sound. The percussion brings extra joy and sunshine! And we love that playful 8-bit break…!
