Weekly Round-Up 48

Welcome to Weekly Round-Up No. 48! This week we feature debut releases by The Velvet CollideTopanga and Me Not You. And we review the new single by POPFILTER. Enjoy the music!

The Velvet Collide – Summers Romance

“Summers Romance” is the first single by new band The Velvet Collide from Los Angeles, USA, a project by Christian Linares, who we got to know as the chillwave producer The Nocturnal Brute. He transformed his dreamy electronic solo sound into this amazing dreamy poprock band sound which radiates sunshine and melancholy. It was produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys). The tempo changes make this a dynamic and very lively song, and a perfect soundtrack for summer.

Topanga – Shadows

“Shadows” is the official debut single by Los Angeles based duo Topanga. Derek Brambles and Eric Johnson have been around for a little while longer, releasing “Watercolours” two years ago. They left their tropical poprock sound in favour of a synthpop sound with more focus on the dancefloor. Fortunately they kept the good vibes! “Shadows” opens your mind, and makes you feel accepting and carefree.

Me Not You – Bulletproof

Mystery band Me Not You delivers a debut track that immediately makes them one to watch for 2017! “Bulletproof” has a perfect combination of electronica and rock, and sounds not unlike CHVRCHES. The build deserves special attention: the intro with just strings and soprano vocals create a feeling of despair. When the beat sets in after a minute, the despair changes into hope. The song finishes with a grand guitar solo. “But the future is here, there’s a new feeling in the air”. Yes, there is!

POPFILTER – In Love Again

Last year POPFILTER burst on the indiepop scene with their debut “Empire“. Now it’s time to fall ‘in love again’! The band from Denver, USA continue their uplifting sound, but give it an extra boost by adding a firm dance beat. Not unlike Delphic and Miami Horror. And this electropop setting does the trick! It makes the track sound just like falling in love: inspiring, catchy and addictive.
