Weekly Round-Up 11

Welcome to weekly round-up No. 11. This week BRONCHO released a new single. And we discovered debut singles by Conjure Wives, Fresco, MalikaKuro Wøøds and PALMSY. Enjoy the music!

Conjure Wives – Memory

Conjure WivesThe debut single “Memory” by Seattle, USA duo Conjure Wives seems to be coming straight from the 80s! From the drum programming and the synthpop melodies to the vocals and the way of singing. With the band’s love for post-punk and 80s pop that shouldn’t come as a surprise. But the execution is simply wonderful. Retropop with today’s production qualities!

Fresco – Separate

FRESCODebut single by Australian band that has been around for somewhat longer actually. They were previously called Cloudbreak but changed their name. “Separate” is a classic sounding pop ballad that is equally rock as it is electronic music. The vocals make the song both sweet and melancholic. We have no doubt there will be more songs of these three guys in the near future.

Malika – Put It On Me

MalikaWhat immediately stands out on British singer Malika’s debut single is her soulful voice. With those vocals everything sounds amazing! The song reminds us of classic 90s R&B from Mary J Blidge and Monica for example. But the production by Snakehips and Maths Time Joy sounds very futuristic, and makes this a possible future R&B classic. Very promising!

BRONCHO – Fantasy Boys

BRONCHOBRONCHO is an indierock band from Oklahoma, USA, and started out with garage punk, very much influenced by both punk and new wave. That makes up for great rhythmic rock music. After 18 months they are now back with the single “Fantasy Boys”, a song that sounds like ’90s shoegaze. The song flows, is very dreamlike, and just simply amazing! New album “Double Vanity” out in May.

PALMSY – You’re Far Too Cool For Me

PALMSYNew band from the Netherlands delivers a great indierock song with “You’re Far Too Cool For Me”. Their sound is classic indiepop with jangly guitars. It’s a catchy tune that would suit perfectly on a roadtrip mixtape: it brings energy and sunshine!

Kuro Wøøds – Dreams

Kuro WoodsThis week, a mystery singer-songwriter named Kuro Wøøds uploaded three songs on Soundcloud. They can be described as lo-fi acoustic indiepop with hip hop beats. We can’t figure out if these beats are played or sampled. Doesn’t really matter, because it sounds fresh. They’re basically sweet love songs, with our favourite being “Dreams”. He assured us that he will definitely put out more songs, so watch out for him!
